July 14, 2026 Release: Live Document Editing and a Web Assistant Refresh

This release adds direct in-document editing with page thumbnails to Review and Compare, rebrands Redline to Review, and refreshes the Web Assistant into a more familiar chat experience.

This release adds a way to edit a document directly, without leaving Scaffold or opening Microsoft Word, and refreshes the Web Assistant into something closer to the chat apps you already use.

Edit Documents Directly, with Page Thumbnails

You can now edit a DOCX directly inside Scaffold's Review and Compare pane, whether you're in the web app or working through Claude, ChatGPT, or another connected AI client.

Type and format text, build lists, links, tables, and images, and navigate the document by page thumbnails, all without leaving Scaffold or exporting to Word. Changes autosave as you go, with a clear status and protection against overwriting someone else's newer edit. It's a real second way to make a change: ask the AI to propose an edit for you to review, or edit the document yourself right in the same pane.

Redline Is Rebranded to Review

The pane formerly called Redline is now called Review — a better name now that it's home to both AI-proposed tracked changes and your own direct edits, in one place.

Clearer Names on Download

Downloaded and emailed documents now use the name of the document series rather than a specific version's original filename, so a re-uploaded file with an OS-added suffix like "Agreement (1).docx" no longer leaks into your download name.

A Web Assistant Refresh

The Web Assistant got a round of improvements to make it feel more like the chat apps you already use.

You can now chat with it directly, ask general questions, and get oriented, all without needing a document open first. Replies render with real formatting, it's easier to follow along with what the Assistant is doing while it works, and failed messages can be retried right in the conversation instead of retyping them.
